It Follows is a really great movie that kind of came out of nowhere. The concept of the movie is so original, and it's played out so well. I remember seeing the trailer, and it's very hard to understand what the actual evil entity is, but it still seems terrifying. There are all new actors/actresses that play their parts perfectly. The soundtrack is untouchable. It's amazing, reprising old 80s horror synth styles. I saw this movie in theatres, and I was extremely impressed.
The entire movie is absolutely terrifying because for most of it you don't understand what the "evil entity is. You see people following people, you sense the terror of being followed. I mean I guess I will throw the SPOILER out there, but the horror is about an STI basically. If you sleep with someone who has this "horror product" the horror will follow you. It will disguise itself as someone you know, or something that looks familiar. The only way to make the horror leave you and stop following you is to sleep with someone else and pass it on them. The problem is that, if whoever you gave it to dies from it, it will come back to you. So you have to make sure they keep passing it onwards or else you're not safe. With this being a teen movie, it's more difficult I feel. Although teens are having sex, I feel like it's less likely for them to be sleeping with multiple people so quickly as they need to to get rid of this virus/STI/demon/terror. It's a very strong and interesting concept. If these people were adults maybe it would be easier to explain what is needed to be done to get rid of the problem. Maybe not? The biggest problem is obviously 1. Getting people to believe them and not think they're crazy 2. Find someone else to pass it on to whether or not its explained or not. They have to explain it though, because if they pass it on it can still come back to them. The movie is absolutely beautifully shot and very well acted even by teenagers. They do their best to find a cure without harming others (which is the ultimate teen-movie solution, but still great). But it's extremely difficult to get rid of the horror without passing it on as they know. There are a tonne of jump scares. There are a tonne of terrifying visuals. I can't believe this movie came out in 2014 cause it's one of the best movies I can remember seeing. A must see if you haven't seen.
